The Ledger Nano X has been one of the most popular crypto hardware wallets for years, and a price cut to $99 makes it better value than ever. It keeps your private keys offline on a secure chip, connects to your phone over Bluetooth and supports more coins than almost any other wallet. Our Ledger Nano X review covers security, features, the Ledger Wallet app, the downsides and who should buy it in 2026.
Quick answer: Yes, the Ledger Nano X is still worth buying in 2026, especially at its new $99 price. Itโs the best choice for people who want to manage crypto from their phone, because itโs one of the few hardware wallets that works with iPhone over Bluetooth, and it supports 15,000+ coins and tokens through the Ledger Wallet app. Its weaknesses are a small, button-driven screen and partly closed-source firmware. If you want a touchscreen, consider the Ledger Nano Gen5; if you want fully open-source firmware, choose the Trezor Safe 5.

Design and setup
The Nano X is about the size of a USB stick, with a stainless-steel swivel cover, a small OLED screen and two buttons on the sides. You press both buttons together to confirm. It ships with a USB-A to USB-C cable, recovery sheets and a quick-start guide.
Setup takes about 15 minutes. You download the Ledger Wallet app from Ledgerโs official website or your phoneโs app store, choose a PIN on the device, and write down the 24-word recovery phrase it shows you. That phrase is the master backup for your crypto: anyone who has it can take your coins, and if you lose your device, itโs how you get your coins back. Write it on paper or a metal backup and never type it into a phone, computer or website.
Security
Your private keys are generated and stored inside a certified secure element chip, the same kind of chip used in passports and bank cards. They never leave the device. Every transaction has to be approved by pressing the buttons on the Nano X itself, so malware on your phone or computer canโt quietly move your crypto.
- PIN protection: the device wipes itself after three wrong PIN attempts, and you restore it from your recovery phrase.
- Optional passphrase: adds a 25th word that creates a separate hidden wallet.
- Genuine check: Ledger Wallet verifies that your device is authentic when you connect it.
- Bluetooth safety: Bluetooth only carries signed transactions and public data. Your keys and recovery phrase never travel over it, and you can turn it off.
The main criticism is that Ledgerโs secure element firmware is closed source, so you have to trust Ledger more than you would with a fully open-source wallet like Trezor. Ledger also drew criticism in 2023 for Ledger Recover, an optional paid service that can back up an encrypted copy of your recovery phrase with third parties. Itโs off by default and you never have to use it. In 2020, a breach of Ledgerโs marketing database exposed customersโ contact details, which led to phishing scams, though no funds or recovery phrases were affected.
Coin support and the Ledger Wallet app
Coin support is the Nano Xโs biggest strength. Ledger says it supports more than 15,000 coins and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, Dogecoin and stablecoins, plus tokens on networks such as Ethereum, Solana and Polygon. You can install up to 100 coin apps at once, so you rarely need to remove one to make room for another.
Ledger renamed its companion app from Ledger Live to Ledger Wallet in late 2025. From the app you can check balances, send and receive, buy and sell through partners, swap between coins and stake coins such as Ethereum and Solana. The Nano X also connects to popular wallets like MetaMask, so you can use DeFi apps while your keys stay on the device. Partner services such as buying and swapping charge their own fees, so compare prices before you use them.
Bluetooth and mobile use
Bluetooth is the main reason to choose the Nano X. It pairs with the Ledger Wallet app on iPhone and Android, so you can check balances and approve transactions on the move without a cable. Many hardware wallets, including the Ledger Nano S Plus and the Trezor Safe 3 and Safe 5, canโt send from an iPhone at all. If you mainly use an iPhone, the Nano X is one of the cheapest ways to use a hardware wallet properly on it.
The battery is for wireless use and lasts for several hours of activity. After a few years it holds less charge, but the Nano X still works fine when plugged in by cable.

Ledger Nano X vs other Ledger models
| Model | Price | Screen | Bluetooth | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nano S Plus | $69 | 1.1-inch OLED, buttons | No | Desktop users on a budget |
| Nano X | $99 | 1.1-inch OLED, buttons | Yes | Phone users and most people |
| Nano Gen5 | $179 | 2.8-inch E Ink touchscreen | Yes, plus NFC | Easier transaction checking |
| Flex and Stax | About $249 to $399 | Large E Ink touchscreens | Yes, plus NFC | Premium screens and larger portfolios |
The Nano S Plus has the same coin support and security chip for $30 less, but no Bluetooth or battery, so itโs best if you only use a computer. The Nano Gen5 adds a 2.8-inch E Ink touchscreen that makes reading addresses and transaction details much easier. If you can stretch your budget and value that clarity, itโs worth a look. For most people, the Nano X hits the sweet spot.

Ledger Nano X vs Trezor Safe 5
| Wallet | Best for | Highlights | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger Nano X Best for mobile | iPhone and Android users | $99, Bluetooth, 15,000+ coins and tokens | Shop Ledger |
| Trezor Safe 5 Best open source | Transparency and desktop | $129, color touchscreen, open-source firmware | Shop Trezor |

The Trezor Safe 5 costs $30 more and has a much better screen: a 1.54-inch color touchscreen with haptic feedback. Its firmware is fully open source. But it connects by USB-C only and has limited iPhone support, while the Nano X works wirelessly with both iPhone and Android. Read our full Ledger vs Trezor comparison.
How to buy and set up a Nano X safely
- Buy from the official Ledger store or an authorized reseller. Avoid marketplace sellers and used devices.
- Check that the box is sealed and that the device asks you to create a new wallet. Never use a device that arrives with a recovery phrase already filled in.
- Download Ledger Wallet only from ledger.com or your phoneโs official app store.
- Write your 24 words on the recovery sheet or a metal backup and store it somewhere safe and private.
- Send a small test amount first, then move the rest of your crypto from the exchange.
Ledger owners are frequent targets of phishing emails, fake apps and even letters in the post asking for recovery phrases. Ledger will never ask for your 24 words. Learn the warning signs in our guide to crypto scams.
Who should buy the Ledger Nano X?
- Buy it if you want to manage crypto from your phone, especially an iPhone, or you hold many different coins and tokens.
- Choose the Nano S Plus if you only use a computer and want to save $30.
- Choose the Nano Gen5 if you want an easy-to-read touchscreen.
- Choose the Trezor Safe 5 if fully open-source firmware matters more to you than Bluetooth.

The bottom line
The Ledger Nano X is a proven, secure hardware wallet, and at $99 itโs one of the best values in crypto security. Itโs the easiest way to use a hardware wallet with an iPhone and supports almost any coin youโre likely to hold. Its small screen and closed-source firmware are real trade-offs, but for most people who want to move crypto off an exchange and manage it from their phone, itโs an excellent choice.
