Coinbase One is Coinbaseโs paid membership. For a monthly or yearly fee, it removes trading fees on everyday buys and sells, boosts your staking rewards, pays a higher rate on USDC and adds extras such as account protection and access to the Coinbase One Card. Whether itโs worth paying for depends on how much you trade. Our Coinbase One review breaks down every plan, the real savings and who should sign up in 2026.
Quick answer: Coinbase One is worth it if you regularly buy or sell crypto on Coinbaseโs simple app, hold USDC, or stake. The Basic plan ($4.99 a month or $49.99 a year) removes trading fees on up to $500 of trades a month, pays 3.75% APY on USDC and boosts staking rewards. Preferred ($29.99 a month) raises the fee-free limit to $10,000 a month and adds 24/7 priority support. A spread still applies on every trade, and Coinbase Advanced trades arenโt fee-free. If you trade rarely, or already use Kraken Pro or Coinbase Advanced, you can skip it.

How Coinbase One works
You subscribe from the Coinbase app or website and choose monthly or yearly billing. Eligible new members can start with a free trial. Once youโre a member, the trading fee line disappears on qualifying buys, sells and converts on the main Coinbase app, up to your planโs monthly limit, and your other benefits switch on automatically.
Two details matter. First, Coinbase still builds a spread into the price you pay, so โzero trading feesโ doesnโt mean zero cost. Second, the benefit covers the simple app, not Coinbase Advanced, derivatives or fees charged by decentralized exchanges. Trades above your monthly limit pay normal fees.
Coinbase One benefits explained
Zero trading fees
This is the headline benefit. On the simple Buy and Sell screens, Coinbase normally adds a trading fee on top of the spread. Members skip that fee on hundreds of assets, up to $500 a month on Basic, $10,000 on Preferred and unlimited on Premium. Thousands of tokens traded through Coinbaseโs decentralized exchange feature are also covered, though external network and DEX fees still apply.
3.75% APY on USDC
Members earn an advertised 3.75% APY on USDC held on Coinbase, with no cap. For example, $5,000 in USDC would earn roughly $187 over a year at that rate, which alone more than covers a $49.99 Basic annual plan. Rates are variable and can change.
Boosted staking rewards
Coinbase takes a commission on staking rewards. Members get a boost of +5%, +10% or +15% depending on the plan. Because typical staking rates are a few percent a year, the boost adds up slowly unless you stake a large balance. Compare options in the best staking platforms and our guide to Ethereum staking.
Account protection
Coinbase One includes account protection that can reimburse losses if someone gains unauthorized access to your account, up to $1,000 on Basic, $10,000 on Preferred and $250,000 on Premium, subject to Coinbaseโs terms. It isnโt a substitute for strong security: use a passkey or security key, and never share codes with anyone who contacts you claiming to be Coinbase.
The Coinbase One Card
The Coinbase One Card is an American Express credit card, issued by First Electronic Bank through Cardless, that earns up to 4% back in bitcoin. Your reward rate depends on how much you hold on Coinbase. You need an active paid membership to open and keep it, and Basic members must choose the annual plan. Itโs subject to credit approval. Other perks
- Coinbase Advanced rebates: Preferred and Premium members get 25% of Advanced spot fees back in USDC.
- Free wires on Preferred and Premium.
- Tax deals: partner discounts such as a free CoinTracker Base plan or $59 off other CoinTracker plans. Compare tools in CoinTracker vs Koinly.
- Onchain extras: up to $10 a month in gas on Base and partner deals for apps built on Base.
- Sweepstakes and token sale boosts for members.
Is Coinbase One worth it? The math
Coinbase One makes sense when the fees and rewards you gain exceed the subscription. A quick way to decide:
- Open your recent Coinbase trades and add up the trading fee line for a typical month.
- If those fees are more than $4.99 and your monthly trades stay under $500, Basic pays for itself.
- If you trade several thousand dollars a month on the simple app, compare your fees with Preferredโs $29.99, or switch to Coinbase Advanced, which is cheaper for larger trades.
- Add the USDC rewards and staking boost if you use them. Holding a few thousand dollars in USDC can cover Basic on its own.
Coinbase One is usually not worth it if you buy once in a while, already trade on Coinbase Advanced, or are happy to use a lower-fee exchange such as Kraken Pro.
Coinbase One vs Coinbase Advanced
They solve the same problem in different ways. Coinbase Advanced is free to use and charges maker-taker fees that are much lower than the simple appโs, but you place orders on a trading screen. Coinbase One keeps the simple app and removes its trading fee for a monthly price. If youโre comfortable with limit orders, Advanced alone may be cheapest. If you want the simplest experience, or also value the USDC rate, staking boost and card, Coinbase One is the better fit. Read our full Coinbase review.
How to sign up
- Open a Coinbase account or log in, and verify your identity.
- Go to Coinbase One in the app or on the website and choose Basic, Preferred or Premium.
- Start the free trial if youโre eligible, or pick monthly or yearly billing.
- Set a reminder before the trial ends. Membership renews automatically until you cancel.
Who should get Coinbase One?
- Good fit: regular buyers on the simple app, people who hold USDC or stake on Coinbase, and anyone who wants the Coinbase One Card.
- Consider Preferred: if you trade more than $500 a month on the simple app or want 24/7 priority support.
- Skip it: if you trade rarely, already use Coinbase Advanced, or prefer a lower-fee exchange. Compare Coinbase vs Kraken and Crypto.com vs Coinbase.

The bottom line
Coinbase One Basic is a good deal for anyone who buys regularly on Coinbaseโs simple app or keeps USDC on the platform: the 3.75% USDC rate and fee-free trades can easily cover $4.99 a month. Higher tiers only make sense for heavy traders and large balances. If youโre cost-focused and comfortable with an order book, Coinbase Advanced or Kraken Pro may save you more without a subscription.
